East Side Gets Back on Winning Track

Fiskdale, MA --- Jimmy Smith paced the Raiders with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with a double and a triple to go along with an RBI and
two runs scored as East Side Post 201 halted a three-game skid courtesy of a 5-2 victory over host Sturbridge Post 109 in an American
Legion Zone 4 contest at Tantasqua Regional High School on Wednesday evening. Post 201 (19-7) improved to 16-6 in zone play while
Sturbridge slipped to 8-16 in the loop.

Smith connected on his double and was promptly plated on a
Tim Brutto single to left to open the scoring just two batters into the game.
Sturbridge evened the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second as
Emilio Torres scored on an infield miscue.

East Side had a chance to go back on top in the third behind Smith's two-out triple, but a fly out ended the threat. Post 109 then took the
2-1 lead in the home half of the inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Eric Proulx.

Post 201 brought the game back to a stalemate in the fifth when
Cam Frederick scored on a fielder's choice off Smith's bat. Nate
, a defensive replacement in the previous inning, reached on a single in the sixth. He eventually scored on a miscue on a ball put
into play by his brother Cam.

The Raider defense was stellar in the sixth.
Jack Riley pulled down a throw from Cam Frederick for the second out. Joe Consolmagno
would also get credit for an assist on the play. R
egan Aghdam, who also assisted on the first out, made a spectacular play to get the ball to
Riley to retire the side.

East Side added two more runs in the seventh as Smith scored on a passed ball and Consolmagno drove in Brutto with an RBI ground out.

Erik Lacaire surrendered four runs - two earned - on four hits with two strikeouts in four and a third. Consolmango, who saw his 15-game
hit streak come to an end, picked up the win (3-1) as he fanned one in an inning and two thirds. Brutto closed the door with two Ks for his
third save of the campaign.

Kody Murphy allowed two runs on six hits and struck out two batters in the first four frames. Alex Augustine shouldered the loss as he
was touched up for three runs - one earned - on two hits with three strikeouts and two walks in the final three innings for Post 109.

Post 201 ventures to Shrewsbury tomorrow for a 5:30 game while Sturbridge heads to Cherry Valley for an 8:00 matchup.
