East Side Comes Out Swinging in 10-0 (5 inn.) Season-Opening Victory at Leominster
Leominster, MA --- Nate Frederick led the East Side Post 201 offense with an early three-run blast and Steve Albert pitched a
two-hitter as the Raiders opened their 2014 campaign with a 10-0 (5 inn.) victory over host Leominster Post 151 in a Massachusetts
American Legion Zone 4 matchup on Tuesday evening at Pin Cannavino Field.
Leominster and East Side are 2-2 against each other since the beginning of the 2013 season. Post 151 took the early twinbill while the
Raiders emerged victorious in the Zone 4 National Bound Championship game one year ago.
Frederick went 2-for-2 with a pair of extra base hits (HR, 2B) three RBI and two runs scored. Sean Murphy (2-for-2) also had a
perfect day at the dish with an RBI and two runs scored while T.J. Camoreyt batted 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a run scored in his
Post 201 debut. Albert (1-0) struck out one and walked two in the two-hit shutout.
Jeremy Nash and Rick Christian each accounted for a hit as Roland Lapointe drew both free passes. Flowers (0-1) shared the hill
with David Neuhaus.
Flowers walked Jono Crimmin and Erik Lacaire after getting the leadoff batter looking to begin the game. Frederick followed with
his three-run shot to center field for his sixth career home run and the early 3-0 lead.
Albert and the defense, meanwhile, retired the first eight Leominster batters (1-1) before yielding the first free pass to Lapointe. Nash
then doubled to put a pair of runners in scoring position but Frederick handled a grounder at third to end the third.
Murphy opened the fourth with a single and Cam Frederick was hit by a pitch. Dezi Garcia moved both up courtesy of a sacrifice
bunt. Camoreyt then pushed Murphy home with a sacrifice fly. In the home half of the stanza, Christian interrupted a 1-2-3 inning
and was on third after a ground out by Noah Milliard. Albert escaped the frame with a swinging strikeout.
The Raiders pushed across six in the top of the fifth. With the bases loaded, Matt Kachadoorian reached on a catcher's interference to
deliver the first tally. Murphy used a run-producing single to plate Nate Frederick. Two more runs crossed the plate courtesy of a
two-out single and an error off the bat of Camoreyt. Crimmin capped the scoring with a single to right as Camoreyt and Murphy
Lapointe drew a two-out walk before the game ended on a high pop up to Albert.
East Side heads to North County for a 5:30pm tilt at Stone Field tomorrow while Leominster is off until Thursday when it hosts Main
South at 5:30pm.
